Hyaluronic acid is a great humectant that keeps skin plump and hydrated, giving it a young-looking feel. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body. It is not harsh or skin-stripping at all. In fact, as body collagen drops, the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration becomes more visible, and hyaluronic acid helps with keeping your skin hydrated. Maximizing collagen levels will keep skin supple. Hyaluronic acid keeps collagen synthesis active, and it retaining skin moisture, playing a big part in the anti-aging benefits of the skin. It also has the stunning capacity to attract and hold massive amounts of moisture. One gram of hyaluronic acid can hold up to six liters of water!
Glycolic acid is a naturally occurring substance, that when used in skincare products offers many benefits to the skin, from rejuvenating to moisturizing. You’ll find Glycolic Acid in many chemical peels due to high percentages being very effective for skin treatments (if done safely and properly!). It is even safe enough to use on sensitive skins. A lower percentage of Glycolic Acid can be used in our daily skincare products, without causing any irritation. This is particularly popular across facial washes and cleansers, bringing along rejuvenating benefits from the first step of your cleansing routine.
What Strength of Retinol Do You Need?
Retinol is the anti-aging/anti-acne/anti-dullness—we could go on, but you get the point. Retinol helps to reduce and smooth fine lines and wrinkles, decreases sun damage and photoaging, and evens out dark spots and rough skin tones. The only problem is that as a powerful active ingredient, it can be irritating. When used in the wrong strength, retinol can be irritating and ineffective.
Since Retinol could be irritating, especially sensitive skin, the skin needs to acclimatize slowly. We can achieve acclimatization by slowly increasing concentrations of retinol. When starting out, always watch for side effects, which can include redness, dryness, itchiness, or overall sensitivity.
• Fair, thin, and sensitive skin types with no history of retinol use should start with a low percentage, like 0.03%. If your skin is tolerating the product well after several weeks of use, you can move up to something stronger.
• Normal and combination skin can start at a higher concentration such as 0.25% retinol. And depending on your skin’s reaction, work your way to something stronger in a few months
• Skin types that are darker, thicker, and tougher will be a bit more tolerant when starting use. Once your skin has adapted, try something with 1.0% retinol
The highest concentration of retinol you can get without a prescription is 2.0%.
Retinol can be used all over the face, but sensitive and delicate skin such as eyelids, corners of the eye, and corners of the mouth, can cause burning and irritation. A less concentrated serum should be used around delicate skin.
It goes without saying, Always wear your sunscreen.
Vitamin C- is an antioxidant that fights skin-damaging elements from your environment. Vitamin C helps your body to build collagen in your skin cells, which keeps skin supple and youthful-looking. Vitamin C can improve your skin’s condition when applied in topical creams and serums, as it assists your skin’s immune system in fighting the effects of the sun. But what concentration do you need? maximal absorption of Vitamin C through the skin is achieved with a 20% vitamin C solution, with higher concentrations showing lower absorption. A 10% ascorbic acid provides the least probability for skin sensitivity while delivering a high concentration of Vitamin C to your skin layers. 10% keeps better dissolved in solution and it degrades at a much slower rate than a saturated solution.
Peptides-Highly bioactive, deeply skin penetrating peptide (palmitoyl tripeptide-5). Has been found in in-vitro studies to activate tissue growth factor (TGF-beta). TGF-beta is known to stimulate collagen synthesis in the skin. Has been found to improve significantly the appearance of any type of wrinkles. Has good skin firming and moisturizing properties. May be able to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. In a clinical study with 60 volunteers, a significant reduction of the appearance of wrinkles was shown after the use of 84 days. Could be used as an alternate method to collagen injections used in lip products.
Silk peptide is one of the best products at reducing fine lines and other signs of aging. These amino acids have a lower molecular weight than the silk proteins they are made from. In turn, this produces their excellent moisturizing properties, particularly for skin and hair.
